International Destinations That Are Open to US Travelers

The United States has been one of the hardest-hit nations in the world by the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, during the last year, many countries closed their borders to US travelers. However, today with more PCR testing, a better understanding of the virus, safety measures, and the rollout of vaccination programs, many places are now welcoming back American citizens with open arms.
Bear in mind that countries may change their rules at any time, and you may have to adhere to stricter COVID regulations than you are used to back home. Violations may result in fines or even imprisonment.
What follows is an alphabetical list of countries that American tourists can travel to.
Albania
A southeastern European country set on the Adriatic Sea. No testing or quarantine procedures are in place, but you can expect to have your temperature taken at the airport. Check the US embassy website for more details.
Antigua and Barbuda
This British territory in the Caribbean is accepting travelers but you must be preapproved. There are also extensive testing requirements. The US Embassy website has more details.
The Bahamas
Visitors 11 years and older must have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within five days of traveling. You can then apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa. The full entry details are on the US Embassy website.
Bangladesh
To travel to this South Asian nation, you must have a medical certificate stating you’re negative for COVID-19 with the test taken 72 hours before travel. There's more information at the US Embassy website.
Barbados
US travelers are considered high-risk and must present a valid COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of travel. More details are available at the US Embassy website.
Belize
To enter this country, which is known for its diving and wildlife, you must download the Belize Health app and have a negative COVID-19 test taken within 96 hours of arrival. More information at the US Embassy’s website.
Bermuda
Passengers must present a negative COVID-19 test taken within five days of arrival. Also, each inbound passenger 10 years and older must apply for travel authorization at the cost of $75 per adult and $30 for children 9 years and younger. Bolivia
To visit this landlocked South American country, you must have a negative COVID-19 test taken within 10 days of leaving North America. No quarantines are in place. Check the US Embassy’s website for all the details.
Bosnia and Herzegovina
All passengers must present a negative PCR test result that's less than 48 hours old. For info, go to the US Embassy’s website.
Botswana
US citizens can enter with a negative PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before departure. If you show COVID-19 symptoms or fail to provide test results or show coronavirus symptoms, you will be required to quarantine for 14 days at your own expense. Brazil
This popular South American country requires a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure. Check the US Embassy in Brazil for more details.
British Virgin Islands
Travelers need a travel certificate from the BVI Gateway website. A negative COVID-19 test result taken five days or less before travel is required for entry. For further details go to the US Embassy website and the BVI government website.
Colombia
A 72-hour PCR test is required, and you must complete a 10-day quarantine period. More at the US government’s website.
Costa Rica
A PCR test is no longer required but visitors must complete a health pass form. More details are available from the US Embassy.
Dominica
Visitors must present a negative PCR test result, recorded between 24 and 72 hours before arrival, fill out a questionnaire and agree to a rapid test on arrival. More details are available from the US Embassy.
Dominican Republic
A PCR COVID-19 test result is not required, but DR authorities are giving breath tests to a small percentage of random passengers. More details are available at the US Embassy in the DR.

Ecuador
A negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 10 days of arrival is required. More details are available on the US Embassy website.
Egypt
American travelers must present negative PCR test result, taken at a maximum of 96 hours before departure. Proof of health insurance is also required. See the US Embassy website for details.
Ghana
You must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result that's 72 hours old or less. Visit the US Embassy website for more details.
Guatemala
Everybody 10 years and older entering Guatemala must have a negative PCR test result taken 96 hours or less upon arrival.
Honduras
Travel to Honduras is permitted with a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken up to 72 hours before arrival.
Ireland
You must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within the previous 72 hours. Additional info is available at the Irish government travel page.
Jamaica
Visitors must complete an online travel authorization form and upload negative COVID-19 test results taken within 10 days of travel authorization. More details are available from the US Embassy in Jamaica.
Kenya
US travelers to Kenya must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken 96 hours or less before arrival.
The Maldives
Every tourist aged one or older must have a negative result for a COVID-19 test taken within 96 hours of arrival. See the Maldives' official tourism website for details.
Malta
US passengers can visit Malta if they transit via a "safe corridor country" provided they've been in that country for 14 days.
Mexico
The land border between the US and Mexico is closed at least until February 21. However, US travelers can still fly to the country. No testing requirements are in place, but you must have a negative test result to return to the US.
Morocco
The North African country is open to specific US travelers who have reservations with a Moroccan hotel or travel agency or have been invited by a Moroccan company. A printed, negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before departure is required.
Nicaragua
US visitors to Nicaragua must have a negative result or serology test.
Panama
A COVID-19 PCR or antigen test with a negative result, taken 48 hours or less before arrival time, is required. There's more information at the US Embassy in Panama.
Peru
A negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test or antigen test less than 72 hours old, is required. More details from the US Embassy here.
Rwanda
Visitors must present a negative PCR test result, taken within 120 hours of departure. They must also take a second test upon arrival and stay in a hotel until they receive their results, which takes one day. More information is available from the US Embassy in Rwanda.
Senegal
Everybody aged two and older must present an original COVID-19 PCR test certificate with a negative result, taken five days or less before arrival. More details from the US Embassy.
Serbia
US citizens need to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within the previous 48 hours or a negative antigen test. More details at the US Embassy in Serbia.
South Africa
Visitors to South Africa must present a negative COVID-19 PCR and/or serology test result taken within 72 hours of departure.
Turkey
Visitors must have a negative COVID-19 test result taken 72 hours or less before arrival. More details are available from the US Embassy in Turkey.
United Arab Emirates
Travelers to the UAE who are 12 and older must present a negative test result within 96 hours of departure.
United Kingdom
While US citizens can technically visit the UK, travel for leisure is highly discouraged. If you do go, you must have a negative test result taken 72 hours before departure and enter quarantine for 10 days. Note that rules may vary between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
